Taste and See

Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Sometimes I have not volunteered to help with something at church because I felt like it was a black hole in the universe.  Once I crossed the line into the nursery, or board of trustees, or staff parish relations, or the choir; I would pass though some vacuum and gate from which I would never emerge.  At Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago, they have a Taste and See policy.  This is a really great policy idea.  You pray about, and think about something you might like to help out with in your church and then you go try it.  You don't sign up for 47 years, you simply show up a couple of times and try it out.  If you feel it is a good fit for your gifts and talents, or it seems rewarding and you wish to continue, then do so.  If not, taste and see some other way you can help. Our churches, all of them, need involvement from the members. I encourage you to find a way to serve.  Pray about it first. Then look to serve by doing something you want to do, something you are good at, something that seems rewarding to you.  Maybe you would like to be in the prayer team for 47 years, at least go a try it once or twice.  It might just be your cup of tea. Taste and see, and take refuge in the LORD.

I like this. I had one bad experience with volunteering in the past. It probably would have been avoided with a similar policy. P.S. My Mom is really enjoying your book.
Thanks John for your comment and also letting me know people enjoy the book.
